Speir Allied Health Building Addition / Charles F. Freeman Community Dental Clinic Earns LEED Silver Certification

The Speir Allied Health Building Addition and Charles F. Freeman Community Dental Clinic at Horry-Georgetown Technical College’s Grand Strand campus has earned LEED Silver by the US Green Building Council.

LEED, or Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, is a green building certification program that recognizes best-in-class building strategies and practices. LEED consists of a set of rating systems for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of green buildings, homes, and neighborhoods. Buildings can qualify for four levels of certification: Certified, Silver, Gold, or Platinum.

The design team for the facility was led by SGA Architecture, LLC. Consultants included: Al Elsenrath, Specialty Dental Consultant; C. Welker Lighting & Design, Specialty Lighting Consultant; Thomas & Hutton, Civil Engineering; Britt Peters & Associates, Structural Engineering; and Buford Goff & Associates, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing (MEP), and Fire Protection Engineering. The Contractor for the project was M.B. Kahn Construction Company.
