GF provided architectural and interior design services for the Fuzhou Road project, located near the Bund and Huangpu River in the heart of Shanghai. The redevelopment transforms a mid-20th century commercial block into a modern mixed-use destination that balances office, residential, and retail uses within a unified design vision.
The program introduces premium office space, serviced apartments, and ground-level retail to create an active vertical community. GF preserved the building’s original structural frame while reimagining the façade with perforated metal screens, insulated panels, and high-performance glazing. Interior spaces reflect a thoughtful balance of raw structural expression, refined finishes, and abundant natural light, offering adaptable layouts that support contemporary urban lifestyles.
Site enhancements include a new entrance plaza and widened street frontage that improve connectivity and the pedestrian experience. Sustainable strategies further reduce demolition waste, optimize energy performance, and extend the life of the existing structure. Together, these efforts position Fuzhou Road as a forward-looking urban landmark that bridges Shanghai’s historic character with its continued growth.
