The light towers were designed to be both people friendly and environment-friendly, with human nature-integration, and fit for tourism. The goal was to develop the Huangpu River into a cultural hub, ecological landscape, and sport and leisure center.

After moving through several rounds of the competition design stages, GF was selected by the Shanghai Planning and Land/Resource Administration Bureau and Pudong New Area People’s Government as one of the five winners.

Of the twenty-four light towers being constructed, GF was be responsible for the treatment of five towers along the east bund. This project highlights our teams’ effort and winning design strategies for this exciting high-profile project in Shanghai.
