GF provided full architectural and interior design services for a net-centric experimentation and analysis laboratory designed to develop, model, test, and simulate defense-related systems and products. The facility is organized around a hexagonal layout, providing six exterior-access sectors: four flexible and reconfigurable, and two housing a command/control center, secure and non-secure computer rooms, a SCIF, a 100-seat auditorium, café, conference rooms, and the main reception.
A 56’ tall lighthouse structure anchors the central atrium, serving as a symbol of vision and innovation, topped with an antique Chesapeake Bay beacon and inlaid with a 32-point compass rose in the flooring. Natural light from a central skylight and clerestory windows, combined with industrial and theatrical lighting, illuminates the collaborative spaces, framed by 40’ tall segmented glass storefront systems and curved partitions. The front lobby features a domed ceiling with a fiber-optic star field and dimmable lighting that washes over a painted sky scene.
