GF provided architectural services for the new 35,000 SF addition at Summerville Elementary School in Summerville, South Carolina. Designed to support continued enrollment growth within Dorchester School District Two, the project replaces an aging classroom building with a modern educational facility featuring 24 classrooms for Special Education, ILS, Music, and Art programs.
The addition integrates with the existing school through a new conditioned corridor that enhances accessibility, circulation, and connectivity throughout the campus. Located within a historic district, the design thoughtfully responds to the surrounding character while providing a contemporary, functional learning environment. A central atrium creates a vibrant gathering space for students and serves as a key hub for daily arrival and dismissal activities.
Despite complex site constraints and a fast-paced construction schedule, GF’s design prioritized safety, operational continuity, and minimal disruption during construction. The completed facility provides a flexible, future-ready learning environment that honors Summerville Elementary’s legacy while supporting the evolving needs of its growing community.
