GF is providing architectural services for the new 35,000 SF addition at Summerville Elementary School in Summerville, South Carolina. Designed to support rapid enrollment growth in Dorchester School District Two, the project replaces an aging classroom building with a modern facility housing 24 classrooms for Special Education, ILS, Music, and Art. A new conditioned corridor will connect the addition to the existing school, improving accessibility and circulation. Located within a historic district, the design is carefully crafted to respect the surrounding character while delivering enhanced functionality. A central atrium serves as a vibrant student gathering space and a key hub for drop-off and dismissal. Despite complex site conditions and a tight construction timeline, a detailed safety plan ensures minimal disruption during the school year. The result is a future-ready learning environment that honors the school’s legacy while meeting the needs of its growing community.
