GF served as design architect for The Mark Charleston, a purpose-built student housing community developed by Landmark Properties and Henderson Park to serve the College of Charleston. Located along East Bay Street in downtown Charleston, the project responds to growing demand for student housing while thoughtfully integrating contemporary design within the city’s historic context.
The development delivers 335 beds across 99 units, with a mix of studio through six-bedroom layouts and more than 18,000 square feet of amenity space, including rooftop decks, a rooftop pool, fitness and wellness areas, collaborative study lounges, and ground-floor retail.
A key feature of the project is the preservation and relocation of the historic Blanken/Matson House, which will be adaptively reused as a resident study space, along with the restoration of the historic building at 77 Washington Street for future retail use. Through thoughtful massing, façade design, and material selection, GF collaborated with project partners and local stakeholders to complement the Wraggborough neighborhood and Charleston’s architectural character.
