GF provided architecture, civil engineering, landscape architecture, structural engineering, MEP engineering, and construction administration services for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, located within Warbird Park in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Situated on approximately one-third of an acre, the memorial was developed in collaboration with the City of Myrtle Beach, local veterans, and community partners to honor those who served during the Vietnam War.
Centered around a 9-foot-tall memorial wall, the commemorative space features an entry plaza with unit pavers, a symbolic reflecting pool, flagpole, commemorative columns, seating and kneeling walls, military medallions, dedication plaques, sculptures, and interpretive displays. A black granite walkway etched with meaningful quotes and artwork extends behind the memorial wall, while educational elements, including historical imagery, a timeline, and QR codes, provide visitors with opportunities to learn about the service and legacy of Vietnam veterans.
Completed through close coordination with the City and the local veteran community, the memorial creates a lasting place for reflection, remembrance, and recognition for generations to come.
