Whataburger

GF collaborated with Frey-Moss Structures to transform a Whataburger prototype into a 2,982 SF prefabricated modular building in Temple, TX, streamlining design and construction while ensuring quality and efficiency. Through careful evaluation of drawings, permitting, coordination and value engineering, the project was optimized for both performance and cost-effectiveness. By leveraging modular construction, build time was reduced by nearly 50%, allowing Whataburger to open faster while maintaining design integrity. Prefabrication further enhanced efficiency, improving accuracy, expediting assembly, and controlling costs.

Navigating state and local jurisdictional approvals required close collaboration with city officials to meet permitting and inspection requirements. GF worked diligently to address feedback and secure approvals, ensuring a smooth path to a timely completion.

This project amplifies GF’s experience with modular building for Murphy USA and aligns with Whataburger’s vision for modernization. The brand is replacing its outdated A-frame buildings with a sleek, contemporary design. GF prioritized drive-thru accessibility to accommodate working trucks passing through the site, supporting Whataburger’s shift toward drive-thru, call-ahead, and third-party delivery services.

GF provided comprehensive interdisciplinary services for this project, including architecture, development services, and all in-house engineering disciplines: Civil, Structural, and MEP.
