James Island County Park Playground & Spray Play

The James Island County Park Playground required the removal of an existing playground built in the 1980s. This renovated playground includes cutting edge, modern, up-to-date equipment that meets all regulatory requirements. The design has a nautical theme which is reflected in the surfacing layout and color. A “parents plaza” is situated between the 2-5 and 5-12 play areas allowing parents to keep a watchful eye on very young and older children. A new sidewalk connection between the two existing parking areas is included. The JICP Spray Play was recently completed in 2014, which allows a fun area for children and families to cool off on hot summer days. A variety of spray equipment was used within the design, and shade awnings were installed between the two spray play areas for parents to watch. A bench-height wall was also installed around the facility to provide additional seating around the perimeter.
