Awendaw Park Master Plan

GF was the lead design firm for the team that prepared the master plan for the park. The process included public meetings and workshops. The 300-acre site for the Awendaw Park was acquired using Charleston County Greenbelt funds. A main feature of the park is a 50-acre lake that provides opportunities for fishing and kayaking. The master plan for the park includes over 6 miles of trails for walking, jogging, and cycling that meander through forest and near preserved wetlands. Other uses include Disc Golf, a Dog Park, Family and Group Picnic Areas, Primitive Camping, a Multi-Purpose Lawn Area with a stage for community events, an interpretive archaeological site, associated restrooms, and parking. The park also provides access to the East Coast Greenway. The master plan has been approved by the Town Council of Awendaw and the Town is currently raising funds for the first phase. Prior to the master planning effort, GF also field located over one thousand tree seedlings to begin reforestation efforts on the site after completion of the pond.
