GF collaborated with developer MADDD Equities LLC on the Trader Joe’s grocery store at Bridgemarket in Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Located beneath the Queensboro Bridge, Bridgemarket is a designated individual Landmark in New York City and listed on the National Register for its 21,000-SF Guastavino-tiled vaulted ceilings and terracotta-clad column arcade, creating a cathedral-like Gothic space.
GF’s urban architecture team navigated design review through the Landmarks Preservation Commission and worked with Trader Joe’s corporate team to implement the approved design. The concept emphasizes the interior’s verticality by minimizing mezzanine height and orientation, maintaining clear sightlines through the transparent curtain wall, and discreetly concealing mechanical systems.
