Coastal Carolina commissioned GF to create a new Information Commons addition to the existing Kimbel Library. The two story, 18,100 SF addition contains a shared first floor lobby, meeting rooms, technology classroom space, a variety of individual and collaborative work spaces, and a reading room within the second floor bridge. Special design features include architectural glazing, glare control, and efficient use of natural and artificial lighting. Project construction was phased to allow for minimal disruption of library operations and student activity, as the existing library had to remain in full operation during the entire process. This facility has been awarded LEED Silver certification.
