GF provided design services for Morris Square, an urban infill redevelopment occupying two city blocks in downtown Charleston, South Carolina. This mixed-use community integrates single-family and multi-family residential units with commercial spaces, creating a walkable, connected environment.
Public spaces were a key component of the design, including Simonton Park, a small urban pocket park, and a city piazza that serves as the centerpiece of the commercial area. The project also involved complex coordination with the City of Charleston, including land swaps and the relocation and restoration of an early African American praise house, preserving the site’s historical and cultural significance.
