GF designed Coastal Montessori Charter School, which serves students in grades 1 through 7 as part of the Georgetown County School District. Originally located in a classroom wing at Waccamaw Intermediate School, the school outgrew its space, prompting the need for a purpose-built facility. The design is aligned with Montessori teaching principles, featuring flexible classrooms with a residential scale and character to support the school’s unique educational approach. Ample natural daylighting was incorporated throughout the facility to strengthen the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. Additionally, sustainable design principles following LEED guidelines were applied, including water efficiency, improved indoor air quality, eco-friendly materials, and site sustainability.
