IKEA: Brooklyn

GF designed IKEA’s first store in New York City, transforming a challenging 22-acre brownfield site into a vibrant retail destination. The 346,000-square-foot store showcases GF’s expertise in complex site planning, sustainable remediation, and waterfront design. Extensive soil cleanup and deep foundation work were required to stabilize the shoreline setting while avoiding interference with existing nearby structures. The project also features a comprehensively landscaped waterfront esplanade and a new water taxi dock – the only one of its kind in New York City, enhancing public access and creating a welcoming gateway to Brooklyn’s industrial waterfront.
